The Importance of Realistic Starting Models for Hydrodynamic Simulations of Stellar Collisions
نویسنده
چکیده
We demonstrate the necessity of using realistic stellar models taken from stellar evolution codes, as opposed to polytropes, for starting models in smoothed particle hydrodynamics calculations of collisions between main sequence stars. Evolved stars have mean molecular weight gradients, which affect their entropy profiles and therefore affect how they react during a collision. The structure of stellar collision products of polytrope parent stars is significantly different from that of collision products of realistic parent models. These differences strongly affect the future evolution of the collision products, particularly products of collisions between unequal mass stars which have undergone significant chemical evolution. The use of polytropes as parent star models is likely to result in qualitatively mistaken results for the structure of the collision product. Subject headings: hydrodynamics – stars: evolution

Relativistic Stellar Models with Quadratic Equation of State
In this paper, we have obtained and presented new relativistic stellar configurations considering an anisotropic fluid distribution with a charge distribution and a gravitational potential Z(x) that depends on an adjustable parameter. The quadratic equation of state based on Feroze and Siddiqui viewpoint is used for the matter distribution. The new solutions can be written in terms of elementar...
متن کاملA Novel Toolbox for Generating Realistic Biological Cell Geometries for Electromagnetic Microdosimetry
Researchers in bioelectromagnetics often require realistic tissue, cellular and sub-cellular geometry models for their simulations. However, biological shapes are often extremely irregular, while conventional geometrical modeling tools on the market cannot meet the demand for fast and efficient construction of irregular geometries. We have designed a free, user-friendly tool in MATLAB that comb...
متن کاملStellar Collisions and Blue Straggler Formation
We review recent 3D hydrodynamic calculations of stellar collisions using the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method, and we discuss the implications of the results for the formation and evolution of blue stragglers in globular clusters. We also discuss the construction of simple analytic models for merger remnants, approximating the mass loss, shock heating, mixing, and angular momentum ...
متن کاملA comprehensive set of simulations of high - velocity collisions between main sequence stars
We report on a very large set of simulations of collisions between two main sequence (MS) stars. These computations were done with the “Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics” method. Realistic stellar structure models for evolved MS stars were used. In order to sample an extended domain of initial parameters space (masses of the stars, relative velocity and impact parameter), more than 15 000 simulat...
متن کامل0 M ar 1 99 8 The Evolution of Blue Stragglers Formed Via Stellar Collisions
We have used the results of recent smoothed particle hydrodynamic simulations of colliding stars to create models appropriate for input into a stellar evolution code. In evolving these models, we find that little or no surface convec-tion occurs, precluding angular momentum loss via a magnetically-driven stellar wind as a viable mechanism for slowing rapidly rotating blue stragglers which have ...
